Land and Water
East Asia´s landforms
East Asia is home of a big mountain range called the Himalayas which was made when India crashed with Asia millions of years ago.
Mount Everest is the highest mountain above sea level and its located on the Himalayas.
China is the world´s third largest country and takes up most of East Asia.
Mountains, highlands, and plateaus which are landforms with high elevation and low relief make most of the China. Plateus are raised areas of level land. The countries that make up East Asia are China, Japan, the Koreas, and Taiwan. The rugged landspace that East Asia has its made by powerful natural forces such as earthquakes.
Japan was also shaped by natural forces, in this case earthquakes which have rise some parts of the islands as well make others to sink. Another very important fact that occurs in many parts of East Asia, is that eathquakes and volcanoes still today are changing constantly the landscape. For example, erupting volcanoes pilled masses of lava and ash, what forms new mountains.
Land of Extremes
China is due to the oldest civilization in Earth, it has the greatest population density on the world with more than 1 billion people. Landforms like mountains and deserts take up over two thirds of the country. * A desert is a dry region of extreme temperatures and little vegetation.
East Asia Rivers
The Yangzi and the Huang He River are the most important rivers of Asia. The Yangzi is deep enough to sail on it. The Hang He passestrough North China plain which is a very fertile land.
"Land of Embroydery"
Korea has a great variety of things. When we talk of variety we also talk about rocky peaks and also rushing streams. Because when the sun reflected in the rushing streams they named Korea the "land of golden embroydery."
Continuing talking about variety we can also say Korea has a peninsula, which is a piece of land sorrounded 3/4 by water. An example of a peninsula could be florida in U.S.A. or THe Guajira in Colombia. That peninsula extends from the Yellow Sea to the Sea of Japan. It is a very montainous places in Earth. From about the world war II Korea was divided into North Korea and South Korea.
Geography and population
About 1.5 billion persons live in Asia.
Near coastal areas they are high population density. Population density is the average of persons per square km.
