2-1 History of East Asia

China!

 

 

 

- Confucius was a famous and important Chineese philosopher. He taught the Chineese that if a person behaves the right way, they will leave in peace and harmony.

 

- Asia and Africa developed civilizations before China.

 

- A civilization has goverment workers, social classes, and cities.

 

- From the world's earliest civilizations, only the Chineese have survived until today.

 

- China didn't want to have much contact with the rest of the world, so they built The Great Wall.

 

- The leaders of China became so proud of their country they named China as The Middle Kingdom because they thought it was located in the center of the universe.

 

- The Chineese invented modern paper, gunpowder, silk weaving, the magnetic compass, the printing press, the clockwork, the spinning wheel, and the water wheel.

 

- The civilization of China had very good engineers and scientists.

 

- China has been governed by an emperor since early times. A series of rulers from the same family is called a dinasty.

-The History is described by dynasties. 

 

  

Korea

  

 

- The original settlers of Korea came from north-central Asia.

 

- Around 1200 B.C., Chineese settlers moved to Korea because China had to many problems.

 

- Migrations made a transfer of Chineese and Korean knowledge. Migrations are when groups of people move from one region to another.

 

- When the Silla people took control of the country, Korea became unified.

 

 

Japanese Isolation

 

 

- Clans fought each other for land and power.

 

- Around A.D. 500, the Yamato clan took power and became emperors claiming they were descendants from the God Sun.

 

- Some emperors had little power, Shoguns or emperor generals made the laws and Warrior Nobles or samurais enforced them. Shoguns and Warrior Nobles ruled for around 700 years.

 

- The trade between Japan and Western Asia didn't last long.

 

- Japan was isolated from 1640 to 1853.

 

- The Japanese culture kept growing though no one knew much things about them.

 

- Then they were forced to trade again because they became interested in western inventions in the 1800s.

 

- The Japanese believed the country's isolation from the rest of the world would keep the country united.

 

 

Cultural Diffusion

 

-China had the best inventions and discoverys.

- Cultural diffusion and spread of ideas happened mostly in Japan and Korea. Confucius's teachings were the first ideas transfered.

 

- Bhuddism was the idea that China took from India and then it was spread to Korea and Japan.

 

 

Westeners in East Asia

 

 

- Marco Polo, and Italian merchant visited China in the 1200s.

 

- He told Italians stories about China. He said China had royal palaces with walls covered in gold and silver.

 

- Europeans and Americans produced a lot of manufactured goods. Western ships then started sailing to Asian ports for trading.

 

 The Opening of West Asia

-Europeans and Americans produce amounts of manufacturing goods, and East Asia was a good place to sell this products.

-Commodore Matthew Perry sailed with four warships to force japan to force its rights with the United States.

-Japan adapt to western inventions but keeping their culture.

-japan became the stongest nation in Asia.

-Many people & cultures gained control of china because it didnt know how to defend.

-Then the United States declare that China should be opened for trade.

New Forces in the Twentieth Century

 

 

- In 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry sailed to Japan to force the Japanese to trade with the United States.

 

- Foreign countries wanted to take control of China. They divided China.

 

- In 1899, the U.S. made a policy saying that China would need to trade equally with other countries so they halted their efforts to divide the country.

 

- After WWII, a civil war formed in China.

 

- Nationalists wanted to make the country stronger so they could handle their own affairs and they didn't need the help of other countries to solve their things.

 

- Communists didn't want landlords or wealthy people to own land. Instead, they wanted the goverment to own everything and drive out foreign influences.

 

- At the end, communists won the war and made China a communist country in 1949. The goverment owns large industries, bussinesses, and most of the land.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                        Historic Traditions..

 

 

*Many important thinkers gaved lots of advices to people like Confucius, he made the China goverment move smoothly through years. Confucius tought that all people had duties and responsabilities. Som advices that important thinkers said was; "Let the ruler be a ruler and the subject a subject."

 

A. East Asia's Achievements.

    1. Region of Asia and Africa had early civilizations than China.

        a. Civilization: a city that has/includes social classes, workers with different kinds of jobs, etc.

    2. China early civilizations had survied, making it the oldest civilization.

    3. China's Great wall was litle with the hole world. But by the time, it became China's symbol.
